Powell speech at Jackson Hole: What to expect? - TDS

Analysts at TD Securities (TDS) offer a sneak peek at what to expect from the Fed Chair Powell’s speech at the Jackson Hole Symposium on August 24th.

Key Quotes:

“Fed Chair Jay Powell will speak on "Monetary Policy in a Changing Economy" at the Kansas City Fed's annual policy symposium at Jackson Hole.

His opening remarks are scheduled for 10 AM ET on Friday, August 24.

Powell may present an overview of how the Fed's operational framework for monetary policy has changed and could evolve looking forward.

Still, we do not expect any substantive policy announcements from Powell at the event.

The theme of the conference is "Changing Market Structure and Implications for Monetary Policy," which hints that more market-relevant research could be discussed at Jackson Hole than in the past.

In addition to Powell, we expect at least a few other central bank heads to speak; so far we know that BOC Governor Poloz will appear on a panel on Saturday, August 25.“
