European Parliament to evaluate Ukraine's application to join the EU – Nexta TV

Eastern European media outlet Nexta TV reported on Twitter on Tuesday that the European Parliament has accepted Ukraine's application to join the EU and a special admission procedure will begin.

The decision to welcome Ukraine to the EU does not belong to the European Parliament but is instead subject to all member states agreeing to its accession, with the European Council also needing to approve it. For now, Ukraine remains a candidate to join the EU.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged the EU to "prove that you are with us" in a speech to the European Parliament on Tuesday, a day after Kyiv officially asked to join the bloc.

According to Reuters, Charles Michel, the President of the European Council, responded that the bloc would have to seriously look at Ukraine's "legitimate" request to join the EU, but he added that "it is going to be difficult, we know there are different views in Europe."
