Coronavirus update: Germany’s new cases rise by 1,510, the most since end-April

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases rose to 226,914 with a total of 9,243 deaths, as reported by the German disease and epidemic control center, Robert Koch Institute (RKI), on Wednesday.

Cases increased by 1,510 in Germany on Wednesday versus Tuesday’s +1,390. The death count rose by 7, the tally showed.

RKI estimates the 4-day average of the virus reproduction rate to be 1.04 while the 7-day R-value estimated at 1.05.

On Tuesday, Chancellor Angela Merkel ruled out any further loosening of virus measures. She said that a doubling in the number of daily cases in the last three weeks needs to be brought under control.

EUR/USD trades flat below 1.1950

EUR/USD is holding lower ground near 1.1930, as the US dollar attempts a tepid bounce across the board amid US fiscal stimulus progress and ahead of the FOMC minutes. The concerning German virus stats could weigh on the euro.
