Rakuten launching cryptocurrency exchange in April

  • Rakuten’s crypto exchange will be named Rakuten Wallet.
  • Rakuten will also be launching its mobile application platform, Rakuten Pay.

Rakuten, the Japanese e-commerce giants, have completed the registration of their cryptocurrency exchange, Rakuten Wallet. As per their press release, the exchange will go live in April. The company stated:

“Rakuten Wallet…which operates a virtual currency exchange service, announced that registration with the Kanto Local Finance Bureau has been completed as a “virtual currency exchange service provider” based on the Payment Services Act...Rakuten Wallet will contribute to the sound growth of the market as a virtual currency exchange company, and will further enhance security and provide enhanced services so that more customers can use it safely and with confidence.”

As earlier reported by FX Street, Rakuten is also launching its mobile application platform, Rakuten Pay. This will have an integrated cryptocurrency payment option, along with fiat. This updated app will include “all payment solutions embedded into one platform.” This can potentially open the gateway for other e-commerce platforms using cryptocurrency payment integrations as well.
